Grumpy about Grups

New York Magazine has apparently identified yet another marketing niche, Grups. It's basically a group of people my age who refuse to grow up. One of them even wrote a book called "Alternadad" or something like that.

Now, most of the music stuff I can agree with. It's not my fault that I like Interpol. I'm even proud of the fact I can say I saw them before they got too cool, at a street fair up on Belmont. But I would never, NEVER, wear a concert t-shirt with their name on it, just to prove I was cool.

And now I have to deal with the fact that Ladytron sells out the Metro in like 5 seconds! Excuse me, but where were all of you dupes 3-4 years ago? Same thing with Sleater Kinney, I check them out awhile ago and no one is there, last year in Ohio? Packed!! Now this damn Grups article even mentions the New Pornographers by NAME! Well thank god I got a chance to see them twice already, because next time they are at the Double Door I'll probably be sol for tickets. Now in principle I don't mind when my favorites become popular, if they are making money they will be able to continue making music for me to enjoy. I just wish there was some way for them to become insanely rich and popular without interfering with my ability to get tickets. And for a couple of weeks afterwards (at least) I have to look at all those concert t-shirts again!!

In fact, I can't understand the whole fake, vintage t-shirt thing. What exactly are you thinking when you buy a t-shirt at Urban Outfitters that you last wore in grade school? "Now that I'm dressing like everyone else, I'll finally be cool!"??? Come on people, if you are an adult, you should not own more sneakers then suits!!
